Silicone blend for a dry, silky feel in skin and hair care
BRB 1840 is a clear solution of dimethiconol gum in cyclopentasiloxane (INCI: Cyclopentasiloxane (and) Dimethiconol). The product is 100 % silicone, contains 11 % dimethiconol and has a viscosity of approx. 1500 mm²/s. In cosmetic formulations BRB 1840 gives the skin a dry, silky feel and gives hair shine and a strong conditioning effect.

Processing
- Add BRB 1840 to the oil phase of your formulation.
- Emulsify into an oil-in-water emulsion at high speed.
- Keep the temperature below 50 °C to prevent evaporation of cyclopentasiloxane.
Points of attention
- ✓ Cyclopentasiloxane (D5) falls under the European REACH restriction on D4, D5 and D6 in cosmetics (Annex XVII, entry 70). Check which limits and transition periods apply to your application.
- ✓ For future-proof formulations we recommend switching to linear silicones. One alternative is BRB 1740 Dimethicone and Dimethiconol. Expect small differences in the end result and start reformulating in good time.
- ✓ Store the container tightly closed in a dry, well-ventilated place and avoid heat.

According to the current product information, BRB 1840 is not classified as hazardous. The product does contain decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) and dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6), which are on the European candidate list of substances of very high concern. Wear protective gloves and eye protection, ensure good ventilation and keep the product away from heat. Wash your hands after work.
