Product description

Altrofoam SF 50

This flexible polyurethane foam has a low density and is perfect for use as a light filling. This foam can be processed by hand (or machine) and can be poured into unheated cavities or molds.

This is a polyurethane casting system foam consisting of an A and B component with a simple mixing ratio (2:1). The result is a compressible foam.

  • Brownish
  • Can be processed by hand
  • To be used in non-heated moulds
  • Low density
  • Suitable as:
    • end product in industrial applications
    • filling of flexible objects

Technical data

  • Mixing ratio by weight: A:B = 100:50
  • Mixing time at 20°C*: 10 seconds
  • Density cured: 50 kg/m³ (0.05 gram/cm³)
  • Volume increase: 20X

*For 100 grams. Larger quantities and higher temperatures result in a much shorter processing time. Do not process too much material at once!

Processing

Stir/shake both components well in their original packaging before use to distribute the fillers evenly. Only process the PU when it is at room temperature (20 to 25°C). Work in a dry room at room temperature. do not use wooden spatulas. Process the product in a room above 20°C.

Pour components A and B together and mix well. Use a mixer with 1000 RPM for best results. Pour the mixed product into the mold with a constant jet, being careful not to entrap any air. Excessive heat development in large castings can be prevented by pouring several successive layers (allow the layer to set before pouring the next one). Wait until the indicated time has elapsed before demoulding. The thermal and mechanical properties will develop rapidly. Final specifications will only be reached after 7 days.

Important

The moisture absorbers in these products may settle, requiring remixing before use. This can be achieved by shaking the packaging intensively before use.
The less filler you add, the greater the heat development of the casting and the less thick you can cast in one go. Use a large surface area mixing bucket to maximize processing time.

The mixing ratio is very important. If there is a deviation of more than 3%, you cannot achieve the specified specifications. Therefore, use a very precise scale (gram scale accurate to 2 points after the decimal point), especially for small quantities.

Shelf life

The polyurethane casting system should be stored in a dry place between 6-28°C. The expiration date, which assumes storage within the specified conditions, is indicated on the packaging. Opened packages must be processed as quickly as possible to ensure product quality. The normal shelf life is 6 months.
