RTV-1 silicone adhesive for bonding, sealing and coating

Wacker ELASTOSIL® E43 Transparent is a one component, acetoxy curing silicone adhesive and sealant, free of solvents. It cures at room temperature under the influence of air moisture to form a permanently elastic silicone rubber with excellent mechanical properties and high tear resistance. Moderately self levelling and colourless transparent. Available in a 90 ml tube and a 310 ml cartridge.

Technical characteristics

Note on addition cure silicones: in combination with platinum cured silicones, E43 inhibits the cure. In that case use the E43 N variant, which does not interfere with addition cure silicones and is additionally suitable for food contact applications. The standard E43 is not suitable for food contact.

Processing instructions:

Abrade the substrate and remove dust and contamination
Degrease with white spirit or alcohol and allow to evaporate completely
Apply E43 and spread evenly
Skin formation after approximately 10 minutes at 23 °C and 50 percent relative humidity
Through cure approximately 12 hours per millimetre of layer thickness. The cure rate is limited by moisture diffusion into the rubber, so free access of air moisture is essential
Heat curing only for layer thicknesses below 0.5 mm, otherwise blistering occurs due to the rapid release of acetic acid
Always run preliminary tests on the actual substrate

Removal: uncured product can be removed with white spirit or a similar non polar solvent. Cured silicone rubber has to be removed mechanically, if necessary in combination with a swelling agent or a chemical silicone remover.

Safety information: during curing a total of approximately 4 percent by weight of acetic acid is released. Work only in well ventilated areas. Avoid contact of the uncured product with eyes and mucous membranes. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. The product is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Refer to the safety data sheet for full information.

Safety Information

This product is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. GHS labelling is not required. The only supplemental labelling element is EUH210, safety data sheet available on request. During curing a total of approximately 4 percent by weight of acetic acid is released. Do not inhale these vapours for long periods or in high concentration and ensure the workplace is well ventilated. Avoid contact of the uncured product with eyes and mucous membranes, as this may cause irritation. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. The product contains less than 5 percent methyltriacetoxysilane and reacts acidic with water. Store in a dry and cool place, protected from moisture and separated from bases and alcohols. Minimum storage and transport temperature 0 degrees Celsius. Wear safety glasses, protective gloves and protective clothing. Refer to the safety data sheet for full information.
