Premium Chemically Inert Silicone Oil for Professional Mould and Lubrication Applications

Silicone Oil 10 cSt is an extremely thin, colourless and chemically inert polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluid with a viscosity of 10 cSt and a density of 0.930 g/cm³ at 25°C. The product has a flash point of 162°C, a pour point of -65°C and a surface tension of 20.1 mN/m. Thanks to its very low viscosity, Silicone Oil 10 cSt readily penetrates small gaps and surface textures, making it ideal as a thin release coating, as an additive to make silicones more fluid and as a penetrating lubricant for fine mechanisms. The 10 cSt viscosity offers maximum fluidity within the PDMS range for applications where the thinnest possible silicone film is required.

Key Benefits

  • Viscosity 10 cSt at 25°C: Extremely thin – penetrates fine textures and hard-to-reach surfaces that thicker grades cannot reach.
  • Flash point 162°C: Sufficient thermal stability for most industrial processing applications at room temperature and slightly elevated temperatures.
  • Pour point -65°C: Retains its fluid properties at very low temperatures – suitable for extremely cold environments and outdoor use in winter.
  • Low surface tension 20.1 mN/m: Wets surfaces quickly and completely – spreads excellently as a thin release coating on moulds and dies.
  • Chemically non-reactive: Does not react with addition-cure or condensation-cure silicones, most plastics or elastomers – safe as an additive without unwanted side reactions.
  • Colourless and odourless: Leaves no visible residue on treated surfaces – suitable for applications where aesthetic neutrality is required.

Typical Applications

  • Thin release coating for rubber, polyurethane, epoxy and metal die casting – penetrates deeper into complex surface textures than higher viscosity grades
  • Additive for addition-cure and condensation-cure silicones (1–10%) to increase fluidity and make degassing easier
  • Defoamer in non-aqueous systems – effective even in very small quantities
  • Penetrating lubricant for fine plastic and elastomer mechanisms
  • Electrical insulating medium in electrical and electronic equipment
  • Raw material for cosmetic formulations (INCI: Dimethicone)

Processing instructions (as an additive in silicones):

  1. Weigh out the required amount of Part A of your silicone and add Part B according to the mix ratio information sheet.
  2. Stir the mixture thoroughly.
  3. Add the silicone oil to the silicone mixture and stir again. Vary between 1 and 10% oil based on the total weight. Adding approx. 8% lowers the Shore A hardness by about 3 to 5 points.
  4. Keep the percentage below 10%: more than 10% oil can reduce the final strength of the cured silicone to an unacceptable degree.
  5. Use the mixture within the pot life of your silicone.
⚠️ Please note: Silicone oil does not cross-link into the silicone and will slowly sweat out under sustained stress or over time, leaving a greasy film on the mould. Take this into account for long-term mould applications.
⚠️ Thermal stability: Silicone Oil 10 cSt has a flash point of 162°C and slowly begins to degrade thermally above approx. 150°C, releasing formaldehyde gas among other substances. Note the lower flash point compared with higher viscosity grades: avoid naked flames and sparks in the working area.

Safety Information

Silicone Oil 10 cSt is classified as harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects (H412, Aquatic Chronic 3) in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Under normal use, the product poses no acute health hazard: no hazard pictograms or signal words are required. Release of the product into the environment, drains, or surface water must be avoided. Recommended personal protective equipment: safety goggles with side shields (EN166) in case of risk of splashes. Specific requirements for skin and hand protection are not required, but good work hygiene is recommended. Note the lower flash point of 162°C compared to higher viscosity grades: avoid open flames and sparks in the work environment. Refer to the full Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed information on storage, disposal, first aid measures, and environmental precautions. The SDS is available via the download button on this page.
