Why choose condensation silicone rubber?
Condensation cure silicone, also known as tin cure silicone rubber or RTV silicone , is popular as a silicone casting rubber due to its ease of use and reliable results.
These liquid silicone rubber systems are suitable for making silicone molds with a predictable curing at room temperature (room temperature vulcanizing silicone).
⚠️ Business only
This tin-curing condensation silicone may only be purchased by registered companies that can safely handle the required B components. Sales to private individuals are not permitted.
Curing mechanism: Curing via a condensation reaction with tin salts, formulations are based on PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane).
For: Professional mold makers, restoration and sculpting studios, prop and SFX workshops, and industrial users who cast with concrete, plaster, wax, soap, or resins.
Key Benefits
- ✓ Easy to pour, brush, inject or knead
- ✓ Durable long life with good resistance to chemicals
- ✓ Detail view captures fine details (note slight shrinkage in the long term)
- ✓ Wide processing margin, room temperature curing
- ✓ Temperature resistant after curing typically from −20°C to +180°C
Application methods
- → Castable silicone for high detail reproduction and complex shapes
- → Brushable silicone with thixotropic agent for vertical surfaces
- → Kneadable silicone for quick block molds and repairs
Processing & curing
Ideal conditions
Temperature: Operate at 15 to 30°C with a relative humidity above 30 percent.
Warning: At temperatures above 60°C the silicone may no longer cure properly.
- Curing at room temperature
- Adaptable with thixotropic agent and accelerator
- Suitable for small and large projects
Modifiers
Silicone Condensation Thixo C makes the mixture thixotropic for brushable layers.
Silicone Condensation Accelerator shortens curing and disassembly time.
- B components T21, T37, T47, T51
- Speed and hardness per product agreement
Compatibility with resins and casting materials
Important: Not all condensation silicones are suitable for epoxy, clear PU or polyester.
For these applications, choose the qualities developed for this purpose, such as:
- Silicone Condensation DC 3481 R
- Silicone Condensation 20 for PU and Epoxy
Always check the product page for compatibility and the correct release agent.
Tips for the best results
Mixing & Processing
- → Weigh accurately by weight and mix thoroughly
- → Scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing bowl
- → Deaerate under vacuum or pour in a thin stream
Mold Making Techniques
- → See porous models in advance
- → Use a suitable release agent with resins
- → Build brush molds in multiple thin layers
Storage & Shelf Life
- → Store components in a cool, dry place
- → Close packaging immediately after use
- → Respect pot life and disassembly time
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between condensation and addition silicones?
Condensation silicones use tin catalysts, are often more affordable, and may shrink slightly over time. Platinum-cured silicones generally have lower shrinkage and other risks of inhibition.
Can I use condensation silicone with epoxy, PU or polyester?
Yes, but use specific qualities designed for this, for example DC 3481 R, DC 3481 Fast or Condensation 20 for PU and Epoxy.
What are the ideal curing conditions?
Work at 15 to 30°C with humidity above 30 percent. Avoid curing above 60°C, as this can cause the reaction to fail.
How do I make a brushable silicone?
Add Silicone Condensation Thixo C to a compatible base to create a non-sag mixture. Apply multiple thin coats for a strong result.
Do not confuse
RTV sealant and silicone spray rubbers for cars are different products than silicone casting rubber .
- RTV sealant is a one component sealant
- Silicone spray is a lubricant for rubbers in the car
These do not belong to our two-component liquid silicone rubber for molds.
